I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Events and Celebrations

How about we spread something contagious that’s good?  NATIONAL SMILE POWER DAY encourages us to turn that frown upside down and smile at the world.  Smile at as many people as you can today and see how many reciprocate.

NANPA, or the North American Nature Photography Association started NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY DAY in 2009 to keep those shutters clicking on the beauty and wonder of nature.  Sometimes you happen to be in the right spot at the right time and just have to whip out the phone and snap a pic.

For all of you lovers out there, today is SNEAK A KISS DAY.  Even though kissing may already be a big part of the relationship, sneaking a smooch adds a little to it.

NATIONAL MEGALODON DAY takes a huge bite as this prehistoric shark is brought out of extinction.  With 276 serrated teeth, each about 7 inches long, and a gaping mouth spanning 8 to 11 feet, these creatures weighed around 60 tons and had a bite force of 40,000 lbs. psi.  If they want to have their own day, who are we to tell them no.

Don’t be a prude as we celebrate NATIONAL PRUNE DAY.  This fiber filled fruit fights cancer, muscular degeneration and night blindness while being good for indigestion and vision.  Full of antioxidants and vitamin A, add these little gems to your diet today.

On this day…

1776 – Delaware declares its independence from Britain, forming the first state of the Union

1864 – Arlington National Cemetery is established

1877 – Henry Ossian Flipper is the first African-American to graduate from West Point

1921 – Bessie Coleman is the first African-American/Native American woman to earn her pilot’s license.  She had to go to Europe to fly since no flight schools in the U.S. would admit her

2007 – Bob Barker hands out his last prize on the “Price is Right”

2012 – Nikolas Wallenda is the first person to cross over Niagara Falls on a tightrope
