I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Events and Celebrations

FLIGHT ATTENDANT SAFETY DAY gets our tip of the captain’s hat as we give these folks of the air their due.  Taking care of us is their main job, and sometimes that ain’t easy.  Crying babies, needy passengers, violent outbursts of late, as well as a host of other situations keep the flight attendants on their toes; and we thank them for their fortitude and caring.

NATIONAL FLITCH DAY has its origins in early England and is still celebrated over there every three or four years.  On this day, married couples would go before a mock court after being together for at least a year and a day to prove their love to each other.  If they passed, they got a flitch of bacon (about half a pig).  I say we bring this back and somebody owes us a lot of bacon.

WORDS WITH FRIENDS DAY celebrates the app that brings people together through vocabulary competition.  If you are into showing off your skills of diction and word knowledge, this is the game for you.

We raise a glass to NATIONAL DACQUIRI DAY.  Start off with a glass of rum – ok – we could stop there – but if you must have a girly drink – add the lime juice, sugar, flavorings and tiny umbrellas and…I just talked myself into having one.

On this day…

1799 – The Rosetta Stone is discovered allowing the dead language of hieroglyphics to be unlocked after 2,000 years.

1843 – The SS Great Britain is launched.  It is the first ocean-going ship with an iron hull and a screw propeller to hit the water

1848 – The women’s suffrage movement gets started at the Women’s Rights Convention at Seneca Falls, New York

1941 – “The Cartoon Snack” premiers debuting that loveable cat and mouse, Tom and Jerry

1980 – Over 60 countries boycott the Summer Olympics in Moscow after the Soviet Union invades Afghanistan.

Happy Birthday to…

Samuel Colt (1814-1862) Gave us the six-shooter

Edgar Degas (1834-1917) Some French painter – I hear he is pretty good

Lizzie Borden (1860-1927) The courts say she didn’t kill her parents with an axe

Brian May (1947- ) Lead guitarist for Queen

Anthony Edwards (1962- ) He was “Goose” in Top Gun

Benedict Cumberbatch (1976- ) “Dr. Strange”

Jared Padalecki (1982- ) From “Dean” on Gilmore Girls to “Sam” on Supernatural

Enjoy the day and make it your own

What an awesome day and we have You to thank for that LORD.  Please heal those who are suffering from COVID as well as our dear friend from cancer.  I pray this in your name, Jesus, Amen.

  1. I saw what you did there with National Dacquiri Day 🥂 Cheers!

    1. Lol, I would probably stay with a diet Coke and rum. Some of those drinks have a lot of sugar.
