Kev’s Daily Take On 08/17/2022

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Events and Celebrations

NATIONAL NONPROFIT DAY is our awareness light of the day.  These charitable organizations bring help, aid and education to those who otherwise wouldn’t have access to it.  Over $400 billion a year gets donated to charities and it is worth it.

THRIFT SHOP DAY urges us to get our shop on and find that special deal.  You may find just what you’ve been looking for at a fraction of the price.

How about a little good luck?  I believe BLACK CAT APPRECIATION DAY can bring us just that.  Some of the last animals to be adopted, because of their reputation for causing bad luck, these beautiful felines are every bit as loving and attitudinal as any other cat.

I LOVE MY FEET DAY urges us to pamper our footsies.  Take care of your feet and they will take care of you.  Getting serious here… especially if you have neuropathy in your feet – I came very close to losing my left foot, even the doctor didn’t think it would make it – but with constant care and observation, it healed.  Inspect your feet, keep them supple – no dry skin or callouses and if you get a wound, see your doctor.

On this day…

1590 – John White, the governor of Roanoke Island, returns after a three year leave to find it abandoned.  To this day, it is a mystery as to what happened to all of the people

1807 – The Clermont, the first steamboat – chugs its way up the Hudson River

1945 – George Orwell’s “Animal farm” is published

1957 – Alice Roth gets free Phillies tickets for being hit by 2 foul balls – in the same game.  The first one broke her nose and as she was being carried away, the second one broke her knee.

1969 – Jimi Hendrix closes out Woodstock with his rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner”

2008 – Michael Phelps becomes the first athlete to win 8 medals at a single Olympics – the Beijing Games

2020 – The University of North Carolina is the first U.S. college to send students home and start on-line classes due to COVID

LORD, we ask for our country to come together and for the divisions to end.  We would ask for those who have suffered from this virus to be healed and for your amazing blessings.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
