NATIVE AMERICAN DAY, INDIGENOUS PEOPLE DAY, and COLUMBUS DAY are all connected.  You really can’t say that Columbus “discovered” America, since there were peoples already here.  You can say that he and his crew were the first Europeans to land here and that it was quite the brave undertaking to sail in uncharted waters to a land they had never seen.  For those of us with a European heritage, we can celebrate that.  Some of us also have a Native American heritage that should always be honored.  The original tribes of the land had a beautiful way of life that respected nature and had a very distinctive culture. Unfortunately, those who came after, sought to manipulate, or even eradicate that culture and change their way of life forever.  I think today should be about coming to grips with what has happened in the past.  We still have a long road to travel in making things right for the Native Americans and working towards that is a worthy cause to honor.

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY shines our awareness spotlight on taking care of the mind.  Stimulating your brain as well as bringing peace to your inner self are both important. Get rid of that nasty stress as well. I also want to give a tip of the hat to all of the individuals who work to make a difference in this area.  Thank you for your dedication and caring.

Ok ladies, NATIONAL HANDBAG DAY gives you the occasion to sport your favorite purse.  If you don’t have one anymore, it could also give you the incentive to go out and buy that perfect bag you just can’t live without.

10/10 is the perfect day to celebrate NATIONAL METRIC DAY since the whole system is based on the number 10.  It is a very simple and efficient way to measure things but we still like our ounces, pounds, gallons and miles.

Lights, camera, action!  None of which would happen without the folks behind the scenes working the lights, cameras, building the sets and bringing the stage to life.  INTERNATIONAL STAGE MANAGEMENT DAY recognizes the efforts and talents of these people and what they do to bring a show together.

Get ready to show some love to your favorite percussionists on HUG A DRUMMER DAY.  These musicians who keep the beat need love too.

Our dessert of the day is light and airy.  ANGEL FOOD CAKE DAY brings the heavenly side of sweets down to Earth.  Make sure and enjoy a piece today.  CAKE DECORATING DAY can jump in here as well.  Get to working on those artistic icing skills since the holidays are just around the corner.
