A Tip of the Hat Goes to…

CUSTOMER SERVICE DAY gives a big thank you to those who still give great customer service. When I come across someone who shows that they actually care about the customer – it stands out. It is not easy to keep up the positive attitude, but I believe it will take you far.
Education and Information

INTERNATIONAL MENTORING DAY shows how important this process is. We can read books, watch You Tube videos or research on-line, but learning from someone who has been there, done that and is willing to impart their wisdom, is priceless.
Belly up to the Bar

HOT BUTTERED RUM DAY will warm the cockles of your heart. Hot water, butter, spices, a little cider and of course a shot of rum make up this concoction that will definitely keep you warm and toasty. We made these once and they are tasty, but very rich.

BOOTLEGGERS DAY just happens to fall on Al Capone’s birthday and the eve of the start of prohibition. Coincidence, I think not. While there is not much need for bootleggers today, these ne’er do wells actually filled a huge hole in society’s need to consume alcohol. Al Capone, Alphonse Kerkhoff, Bugs Moran and Lucky Luciano are just some of the individuals who capitalized on the time. Templeton Rye Whiskey was Al Capone’s drink of choice and is the sponsor of this day.

1871 – Andrew Hallidie invents the cable car
1928 – Anatol M. Josepho invents the photo booth
1929 – Popeye the Sailorman shows up in Thimble Theater Comic Strips for the first time
1950 – The almost perfect crime is committed when 11 men rob the Brinks Armored Car Depot in Boston. Making off with 2.7 million dollars in cash and money orders they almost got away with it. They were supposed to wait to spend any of the money for six years when the statute of limitation would run out. Days before that, one of them, who was serving time in prison, started making noise about either getting his money or he would rat them out. The others sent a hit man into prison to kill him, but that failed. As a result, he did go to the cops and told them everything. Eight of them served time for the crime, the others had already died. Only a small part of the loot was found. The rest is rumored to be buried somewhere north of Grand Rapids Minnesota
1955 – The USS Nautilus, the first nuclear powered sub, makes its maiden voyage
1995 – The Los Angeles Rams move to St. Louis and then move back some years later. That’s ok, we now have the XFL here and the St. Louis Battle Hawks – CA CAW!
