Awareness Spotlight shines on…

The Office on Women’s Health coordinates NATIONAL WOMEN AND GIRLS HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY every year to promote awareness and education when it comes to dealing with this disease. The CDC reports that HIV diagnoses for women are down 21% but new cases are still reported every day. Please take the appropriate steps to protect yourselves. While there are medicines to help deal with HIV, there is still no cure. Wear red to show your support for this cause.
For Fun

It is no accident that Mar 10 is also NATIONAL MARIO DAY. Yep, that Mario, the one that jumps, slides, runs, and saves princesses in the video games. He started off in 1981 as a carpenter pitted against Donkey Kong, and two years later got his own gig with his brother Luigi in Mario Brothers. Nowadays he pops up in all kinds of games and has lasted through many different gaming system changes. I used to play that game so much, when I finally turned it off, I would still hear the theme music. My parakeet was singing it note for note. I’m sorry Mario, but your princess is on another level.
On Today’s Menu…

NATIONAL RANCH DAY serves up this very popular condiment. It has become so much more than a salad dressing. Make it into a dip, enjoy ranch flavored chips, season your meat with it and add it to any number of foods. You can probably find some way to include it in your homemade lunch today.

Get those lunch bags out and ready to fill with NATIONAL PACK YOUR LUNCH DAY. You get to eat what you want, control those portion sizes and it is probably cheaper and healthier than eating out. The first character to appear on a lunch box was Mickey Mouse in 1935. I still remember my Flintstones lunchbox and thermos. You may not have a lunch bag as cool as that, but today is the day to take it with you.

Our dessert of the day is light and airy while also being sweet. NATIONAL BLUEBERRY POPOVER DAY spills out of its tin and onto our plates. These pastries bake up with a crusty outside and hollow inside that is great for stuffing with blueberry filling.

Enjoy the day and make it your own
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. – A prayer by St. Francis of Assissi
