Awareness Spotlight shines on…
In 2006, the International Federation of Kidney Foundations founded WORLD KIDNEY DAY to raise awareness regarding kidney diseases and prevention. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and anorexia can all cause kidney failure. Watching what you eat, exercising and keeping yourself hydrated go a long way to good kidney health. There are no symptoms for early chronic kidney disease – if you know you are high risk to get it, check in with your doctor to keep an eye on things.

Break out the pen and paper and celebrate WRITE YOUR STORY DAY. Everyone has a story to tell and putting yours down on paper somehow makes it a little more real. I bet you have a very interesting tale to pen.
Education and Information
LEARN ABOUT BUTTERFLIES DAY comes in on a wing and a prayer. The prayer is for more flowers and habitats to be grown so as to give these gossamer beauties a place to do their thing. Just like the bees, they count on us to help them survive – and we count on them as well. With over 20,000 different types around the world, there is a lot to learn about these winged wonders.
For Fun
Let’s celebrate a little math with NATIONAL PI DAY. 3/14 is the day to acknowledge the constant 3.14159265… which has been calculated to be the ratio between the circumference and diameter of a circle. There are two ways to celebrate this… either calculate the number until you get tired (it goes on forever) or grab a slice of your favorite pie – fruit, chocolate, pizza… it doesn’t matter – just pick one and indulge.
Break out those art supplies and bring on CHILDREN’S CRAFT DAY. If you have kiddos who need something to do – have them run around the yard first so they will get some energy out to listen – and get to creating masterpieces of glue, construction paper, popsicle sticks, glitter, and crayons.

You can’t eat just one on NATIONAL POTATO CHIP DAY. All the way back on August 24, 1853, Chef George Crum decided to slice his potatoes as thin as he could, fry them and add extra salt. Turns out he was on to something. Grab a bag of your favorite chips and dip away.
POPCORN LOVERS DAY is for those who savor the popped goodness of these kernels. Pop a batch, add butter and enjoy in front of your favorite show.
