BUFFALO SOLDIERS DAY remembers the first African American regiment formed during peace time.  It was 1866, after the Civil War, and they were sent to the frontier to protect settlers and unsettled lands.  The desertion rate among their units was some of the lowest in the Army and they are remembered for their loyalty and bravery.

Family and Friends…

It is all about family today with NATIONAL PARENTS DAY.   Anyone who is a parent of any kind (kid or pet) can take a bow today.  You don’t get to take a break from being a parent, but would you really want to?  I am thinking of my amazing parents.  They have both passed on, but I couldn’t have asked for better. Here’s to you, Mom and Dad, until we meet again.

Let’s kick it up a notch with NATIONAL SOCCER DAY.   The world’s most popular sport gets its day here in the U.S. and it should.  We have watched it ebb and flow over the years and it seems to be going through another resurgence.  St. Louis has long been a soccer town and our new MSL team – St. Louis SC is doing pretty good.  I tried playing indoor soccer a long time ago – for one season – it wasn’t for me – too much running – the ball never goes out of bounds, so the game hardly ever stops.  For those that do play, my hat is off to you and keep up the good work.

This is certainly the time of year for NATIONAL WATERPARK DAY.  These aqua havens are great for cooling off, going on some slick slides or just hanging out.  Going down a tubular slide, twisting and turning on an innertube and then splashing into a pool is a long way from running through a sprinkler.

Our dessert of the day will melt in your mouth – and in your hands with this heat.  MILK CHOCOLATE DAY will satisfy that sweet tooth and that chocolate craving.  There are so many ways to enjoy this treat – so pick one and indulge a little.
