EARTH OVERSHOOT DAY reminds us to mind how we use our natural resources. There is a calculation based on our resource use and the earth’s regenerating capacity.  According to it, we are using resources faster than the earth can reproduce them and today is basically our allotment for the year I don’t know how they calculate this and don’t take this for gospel.  I do know that we need to conserve where we can, be smart about our handling of the environment and plan for the future.

If you know what a pung of 8 dots, a kong of 7 cracks, or a pair of 3 bams is then you are ready to celebrate INTERNATIONAL MAHJONG DAY.  This game of tiles that started in China is a lot like poker.  You can bet on it, there are several variations, and it is a very sociable game.  I am hooked on it, to say the least.

Next, we raise a glass to NATIONAL IPA DAY.  There is a reason this beer is extra hoppy.  When beer was shipped to India from England, in the 1700’s, extra hops were added to keep the beer from going bad.  India Pale Ale, as it was soon called, turned out to be pretty good.  Today, it seems that every microbrewer has their own version.  Pick one today and quench your thirst.

Our dessert of the day sounds scrumptious.  RASPBERRY CREAM PIE DAY may not be as sweet as some of the other cream pies out there, but it will hit the spot on these warm summer days.
