The Cleveland Browns defeat the New York Jets on the premiere of Monday Night Football – 1970

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Awareness Spotlights shine on…

NATIONAL OPIOID AWARENESS DAY shines a spotlight on a very dark condition that can trap just about anyone. We know opioids can be addictive and well over half of all overdose deaths are now due to them. If you are taking them, be very careful. Wear purple to show support.

WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY reminds us that there is still more work and research to be done on this horrible disease. There is no cure – yet – and no known preventative measures to be taken. Check with the Alzheimer’s Association to see how you can help. If you search for this website on Microsoft Bing – they will automatically donate to the cause.

NATIONAL BLACK WOMANS EQUAL PAY DAY marks just how much longer an African American woman has to work to earn the same as a white male – on average. About 226 days longer – let’s keep working to balance the scales.
A Tip of the Hat

BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUB DAY FOR KIDS recognizes the wonderful work that the Boys and Girls Clubs of America do. By looking after the health and wellbeing of any child that comes through their doors, they have and continue to make a difference.
NATIONAL SINGLES DAY is here to say – if you are single, today is the day to mingle – or – be happy with your relationship status – whichever suits you – don’t change for anyone.
Our Furry Friends

RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP DAY and PUPPY MILL AWARENESS DAY are begging us to take care of our pets. I am preaching to the choir on these subjects, and I am so glad that we can provide for our animals so they can give us companionship and love in return.

My wife would not forgive me if I did not include INTERNATIONAL RED PANDA DAY. This is one of her favorite animals and it is easy to see why – as they are so cute. Not related to pandas at all, they are only about two feet in length and like to live in bamboo trees. A century and a half after they were discovered, they were put on the endangered species list. Let’s keep these beautiful creatures around for a long time.
Education and Information

SEAT CHECK SATURDAY wants to make sure all of those child car seats are installed properly. They have saved countless lives of infants and children.
For Fun

Hawaiian Rumble Championship Mini Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, SC
This one’s for you, Sister, and anyone else who loves to chase windmills. MINIATURE GOLF DAY is all about getting outside, finding your favorite putt-putt course and winding your way through the obstacles. Did you know that they have a pro mini golf league? Yep, as well as some championship courses.
On Today’s Menu…

NATIONAL CHAI DAY quenches our thirst with a healthy tea. You can mix this with milk and a variety of spices including cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper and fennel.

I only have one question for our dessert of the day – is it NATIONAL PEE-CAN COOKIE DAY or NATIONAL PA-CON COOKIE DAY? I don’t think it really matters, just grab a few and enjoy.
