The video game insdustry gets it’s start when Atari breaks out Pong in 1972

Awareness Spotlight shines on…

NATIONAL NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY celebrate and honors all Native American peoples and their cultures. I have been told that I have some Cherokee blood running through my veins, and yet, I know next to nothing about that tribe. It is a good day to find out more.
ISDAL WOMAN DAY remembers those who died in mysterious ways and who remain unidentified. In 1970, in Isdalen Norway, the body of a woman was discovered by hikers. The body was burned beyond recognition and all identifying labels and tags on her clothes and purse had been removed. Police were able to trace her past movements from 5 days before but that just showed her using aliases and fake passports. Her autopsy revealed around 70-75 sleeping pills in her system as well as smoke in her lungs, meaning she was alive as she was burned. To this day, her identity remains a mystery. Today we remember those victims who tragically died as unknowns and their families who are seeking answers.
Family and Friends

NATIONAL DAY OF LISTENING is brought to us by Story Corps. The idea is to gather the family together after the feasting and listen to each other. Listen to the history, the issues and to each other.

ELECTRONIC GREETINGS DAY wants us to reach out and touch someone through the wonderful world of technology. Text, e-mail, video chat, or pick out one of the thousands of e-greeting cards online to send to the special people in your life.
Education and Information
FLOSSING DAY was created by the National Flossing Council (I did not know there was one). They recommend flossing at least once a day for good dental health. Keep those chompers healthy for the next Thanksgiving.
For Fun

BLACK FRIDAY comes at us fast and furiously with sales, deals and promises of cash back. It’s not quite what it used to be, thanks to on-line selling, but who can forget the days of standing in line, in the cold at 5:00 am waiting for the store to open. Then, moving with the surge to get in, get what you came for, and hopefully get out in one piece.

BUY NOTHING DAY is a call to activism to end consumerism. Started in Canada to protest the shopping frenzy of the day, I don’t think it has made much headway.

SQUARE DANCING DAY bows to our partner, then to our corner. Grab your partner and Do Si Do. Allemande left and promenade around the square. If you don’t know what these terms mean, then you didn’t have to square dance in elementary school gym class like I did. At the time I thought it was pretty lame, but looking back, it was actually a lot of fun, though no one could admit that at the time. It’s good exercise and makes for a nice social event.
On Today’s Menu…

MAIZE DAY celebrates one of our main crops. We depend on corn for us and our animals. After the Wampanoag natives shared their bounty with us, on that first Thanksgiving, they showed us how to plant and harvest it. I believe some popcorn may be in order tonight.

THROW OUT YOUR LEFTOVERS DAY reminds us that it is time to toss the turkey. Don’t eat any more of that stuffing and if you still have pumpkin pie left over, too bad. That should’ve been gone yesterday.

Our dessert of the day mixes sweet and sour. LEMON CREAM PIE DAY is a delicious treat that will leave you wanting another slice.
