KOREAN AMERICAN DAY commemorates the first Korean immigrants to come to the U.S. It was back in 1902, on this day, when 102 Koreans set sail for Honolulu. Since then, we have enjoyed the culture they brought with them, their food and their customs.

STEPHEN FOSTER MEMORIAL DAY remembers America’s first composer on his death date. Born in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1826, he composed over 200 songs including Camptown Races, Oh! Susanna, and My Old Kentucky Home. He passed away at the age of 37 in 1864.

NATIONAL RUBBER DUCK DAY falls on the birthday of Rubber Duckie – Big Bird and Ernie’s friend from Sesame Street. The bathtub toy has been around since the late 1800’s and was actually inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame in 2013. In 2001, sales of these bobbing toys really took off, once it was reported that Queen Elizabeth had one (with a crown) in her bathtub.

PEACH MELBA DAY celebrates the creation of this decadent dish. French chef Auguste Escoffier put together peaches, vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce, named it after opera star Nellie Melba and served it to his guests. I bet it tastes as good as it sounds.
