After 444 days the American hostages in Iran are released on this day in 1981

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Awareness Spotlight shines on…

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY honors the man who had to be silenced with a bullet to stop his crusade for equality. He was a theologian, activist, speaker and father who gave a voice to so many folks who would otherwise never be heard. His dreams and his visions live on and can be seen in the progress that has been made in the Civil Rights Arena. We still have a ways to go, but as long as we keep working at it, his memory will be honored.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACCEPTANCE wants everyone to know that they matter. This day was started to make sure that people with disabilities are recognized for who they are and what they can accomplish – not what they can’t do. I fully believe that God created every one of us and God doesn’t make mistakes. You have a purpose and every right to be accepted.
A Tip of the Hat Goes to…

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS DAY gives these brave souls the recognition they deserve. Elementary school kids are a different kind of animal, and this lot knows how to handle them. Not only do they train young minds but are there to deal with all kinds of situations with infinite patience. Thank you for what you do.
NATIONAL DJ DAY cranks up the amps for these entertainers who keep the vibes flowing and the good times rolling. A good DJ will keep any party on the lively side or keep us accompanied during the day. Today, we thank all of these people who spin the tunes and bring us the music we like.
Our Aquatic Friends

NATIONAL PENGUIN DAY waddles into our lives as we celebrate these cute marine animals. It is also about making sure these fine-feathered friends are around for a long time. Their habitats are disappearing, and we need to do what we can to give them places to thrive.
For Fun

TAKE A WALK OUTDOORS encourages us to get off our duffs, go outside, and get some fresh air and exercise. Me included.
On Today’s Menu…

COFFEE BREAK DAY makes sure you take time to enjoy a cup of Joe. You can never be too busy, to take a few minutes to savor a hot cup of java.

CHEESE LOVERS DAY breaks out the platter of Swiss, American, Gouda, mozzarella, cheddar and Provel. Pick out your favorites and enjoy a slice or hunk or two.
NATIONAL BUTTERCRUNCH DAY takes that crunchy toffee and covers it in chocolate. Ok, I’m in.

Happy Birthday to…

Harold Lincoln Gray (1894-1968)
This cartoonist gave us Little Orphan Annie

Eva Jessye (1895-1992)
She made a name for herself during the Harlem Renaissance as the first African American woman to direct a professional choral group

George Burns (1896-1996)
Over 70 years of giving us our money’s worth, George started off in Vaudeville, would go on to radio, the big screen and TV. We will always remember him in The Sunshine Boys (1975), Oh God (1977), and of course, with his beloved wife on the George Burns and Gracie Allen Show

Joy Adamson (1910-1980)
She loved her lions and after raising a lioness, Elsa, to be released back into the wild, wrote the book Born Free. This was turned into an Oscar winning movie (1966). Tragically, she would be murdered by a disgruntled employee, while her husband was murdered by poachers in 1989
Edwin Buzz Aldrin (1930- )
This astronaut is only one of two people to set foot on the moon.

David Lynch (1946- )
This Oscar winning director puts a little bizarreness into his work with films like Eraserhead (1977), The Elephant Man (1980), Blue Velvet (1986) and the TV series Twin Peaks (1989-1991)
Oh, Lover of our Souls, thank you for making us, giving us a purpose and making each one of us special. Amen.
Enjoy the day and make it your own
