Why not celebrate 314 Day in St. Louis with a St. Lunatic burger from High Pointe Drive-In. 314 is the area code for St. Louis and this burger – there is a burger in there somewhere – shows off the defining delicacies of our fair city. This sandwich boasts a pork steak, toasted raviolis, red hot riplets, provel cheese and has two small Imo’s pizzas for buns.

PURIM – THE FAST OF ESTHER is honored in Jewish tradition as a day of salvation. The Book of Esther in the Old Testament describes how Esther and her uncle Mordechai worked together to thwart the evil plan of Haman – a prime minister of the King’s court – to exterminate the Jews. It is quite a read. The Fast of Esther takes place before Purim where the people go without food and water from sunup to sundown. After sundown, Purim is celebrated as a way to break the fast and to celebrate the Jewish victory over the Persians.

Break out the pen and paper and celebrate WRITE YOUR STORY DAY. Everyone has a story to tell and putting yours down on paper somehow makes it a little more real. I bet you have a very interesting tale to pen.

LEARN ABOUT BUTTERFLIES DAY comes in on a wing and a prayer. The prayer is for more flowers and habitats to be grown so as to give these gossamer beauties a place to do their thing. Just like the bees, they count on us to help them survive – and we count on them as well. With over 20,000 different types around the world, there is a lot to learn about these winged wonders.
For Fun
Let’s celebrate a little math with NATIONAL PI DAY. 3/14 is the day to acknowledge the constant 3.14159265… which has been calculated to be the ratio between the circumference and diameter of a circle. There are two ways to celebrate this… either calculate the number until you get tired (it goes on forever) or grab a slice of your favorite pie – fruit, chocolate, pizza… it doesn’t matter – just pick one and indulge.
Break out those art supplies and bring on CHILDREN’S CRAFT DAY. If you have kiddos who need something to do – have them run around the yard first so they will get some energy out to listen – and get to creating masterpieces of glue, construction paper, popsicle sticks, glitter, and crayons.

You can’t eat just one on NATIONAL POTATO CHIP DAY. All the way back on August 24, 1853, Chef George Crum decided to slice his potatoes as thin as he could, fry them and add extra salt. Turns out he was on to something. Grab a bag of your favorite chips and dip away.
