A Tip of the Hat Goes to…
In 1881, Clara Barton started an organization that continues to serve humanity. NATIONAL AMERICAN RED CROSS FOUNDERS DAY marks that occasion and gives us a chance to thank them for all they do. From the collecting of blood, to being there in times of need, to rushing into disaster areas, the American Red Cross is an organization you can depend on.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN DAY honors those who rush into the fire, are the first on the scene of an accident and administer care under intense circumstances. It also raises awareness for the specialty care that children require. What treats an adult doesn’t always work for a kid so special equipment and procedures are called for. Thank you for your bravery and courage and for the heart it takes when it comes to caring for the little ones.
NATIONAL WAITSTAFF DAY gives a tip of the hat to all of the hard-working waiters, waitresses, bussers, valets, doormen, hostesses, hosts, and any others I didn’t mention who make sure we are taken care of. A nice tip is always appreciated, and we do thank you for what you do.

Like Yoda, you must talk today. NATIONAL TALK LIKE YODA DAY happens on the anniversary of the first time we meet him in the second released Star Wars movie – “The Empire Strikes Back”. The little green sage is celebrated as a Jedi Master and mentor to Luke Skywalker. His peculiar way of talking is a little infectious and if you hear a good impersonation, like Yoda you will answer.
On Today’s Menu…
NATIONAL EAT YOUR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES DAY is a good idea. We have plenty of days that celebrate sugar and fat, but here is one that is good for you. Vegetables and fruit definitely do a body good so try and work ‘em into your menu – also speaking to myself here.
As the weather warms up, NATIONAL JUICE SLUSH DAY doesn’t sound too bad. We have been enjoying fruit juice over ice for centuries and in these modern times you don’t have to wait for winter or climb a snow-capped mountain to enjoy. Pop down to your grocery or convenience store and get a nice, cold, sweet drink. They even make ‘em with alcohol, so be careful which ones you give the kids. Don’t confuse slushies with Icees – that’s a whole different story.
Our dessert of the day is perfect this time of year. NATIONAL STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM DAY is delightful and delicious. Sweet strawberries covered in cream, whipped or otherwise, will taste just right today.
