Religious Holidays

CANDLEMAS recognizes the event of Jesus’ parents bringing him to the temple when he was 40 days old. This was the law, and He would be blessed by the priests and officially inducted into Judaism. Today, candles will be lit, blessed and taken back to homes where they will be placed in windows to ward off storms.
Awareness Spotlight shines on…

Make sure and break out some of that red wardrobe today. NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY is all about bringing awareness to women’s heart disease. One in three women die from stroke and heart disease so please do what you can to prevent it. No smoking is a start, a healthier lifestyle and regular checkups with your doc go a long way to keeping your heart healthy.
For Fun

Since 1841, we have been watching ground hogs to find out how much more winter we have to endure. NATIONAL GROUNDHOG DAY has roots back in Germany and the story goes that if he sees his shadow and runs back into his hole there will be six more weeks of winter. If he stays out, we have an early Spring. All eyes will be on Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania, who is the official groundhog to watch.

Start chewing and blowing for BUBBLE GUM DAY. This actually started off as a school fundraiser where kids would have to pay 50 cents for the privilege of blowing bubbles in school. Fleer Chewing Gum marketed the first bubble gum, “Dubble Bubble” back in 1928 and we have been chewing, popping and blowing ever since.

WORKING NAKED DAY was founded by Lisa Kanarek nearly 20 years ago. She decided to leave the stress filled corporate work life and start working from home. This concept is a lot more prevalent after the pandemic, but back then, not so much. Working from home gives you freedoms you certainly didn’t have around the office and can be less stressful. Lisa has written books about turning your home space into a productive workspace – the comfort of home plus the efficiency of the corporate atmosphere. If you choose to go sans clothes while working from home – that is entirely up to you – just remember to be decent before the zoom meetings.
On Today’s Menu…

CALIFORNIA KIWIFRUIT DAY celebrates the tasty and healthy fruit that comes from China. Full of fiber, vitamin C, iron and antioxidants, these little gems will do your body good.

How about something warm and crispy on this wintry day? NATIONAL TATER TOT DAY brings us a golden goodness that goes great as a side, snack or even in a casserole. I gotta go with the pairing of sloppy joe sandwiches and tater tots as my favorite way to eat them.

Our dessert of the day comes in a variety of ways but has a common ingredient. HEAVENLY HASH DAY must include some form of marshmallow. Whether it’s puffed, whipped or creamed, marshmallow mixed with chocolate, nuts, fruit and even coconut make up this delightful dessert.
