A Tip of the Hat Goes to…

Has there been any other industry that has grown more than logistics, lately?  NATIONAL LOGISISTCS DAY recognizes the massive undertaking to get stuff where it needs to go.  We have become a demanding society that wants what it wants when it wants it and there are companies who will do almost anything to make that happen.  From the mechanics to the warehouse workers to the drivers and of course, management, we thank all of you for working so diligently.   

Education and Information

Are you covered?  Is it enough?  These are the questions that NATIONAL INSURANCE AWARENESS DAY asks.  It seems like a gamble, but you gotta weigh the risks.  It might be a lot to put out, but what do you do if your hot water leaks all over, or if your transmission falls out of the bottom of your car?  This day just wants you to think about it.

Today’s Fashion Trends

INTERNATIONAL BODY PIERCING DAY brings out some beautiful and interesting fashion statements.  The styles and places for earrings and nose rings to be worn are almost endless, let alone taking the rest of the body into account.  If you are of the mind, celebrate this bejeweled occasion today.

For Fun

It’s story-telling time with NATIONAL PAUL BUNYAN DAY.  There are enough tall tales about the big guy and his blue ox, Babe, but the one about him turning the Sahara Forest into a desert is my favorite.

On Today’s Menu…

Today is also NATIONAL FOOD TRUCK DAY.  I can’t think of a better way to support your local business than by visiting one of these rolling restaurants and partaking of their fare.

NATIONAL TAPIOCA DAY might as well be called National Tapioca Pudding Day, as far as I’m concerned.  I don’t know what else you do with it.  If anyone uses this stuff for anything else, let me know.

On this day…

1914 – Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife are assassinated.  This event sparks WWI.

1919 – The Treaty of Versailles is signed bringing an end to WWI – 5 years to the date from when it started

1919 – Economist John Maynard Keynes walks out of the Treaty of Versailles in protest.  The Allies had played a “bait and switch” on the Germans, telling them one thing, and then making them sign another.  Keynes predicted that the harsh treatment of Germany would cause its economic collapse and spread to the rest of Europe.  He was right.  Germany’s economy could not take the imposed regulations and inflation got so bad that a year’s salary could not buy a loaf of bread.  Two things came out of this situation – Keynes book The Economic Consequences of the Peace and the Nazi Party.

1926 – Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz form Mercedes Benz

1953 – The first Corvette glides off the assembly line in Flint, Michigan

1969 – A police raid at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village turns violent and sparks the gay rights movement

1997 – Mike Tyson is disqualified during his heavyweight title match when he starts biting Evander Holyfield’s ears

2007 – The bald eagle is removed from the endangered species list
