I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
A Tip of the Hat Goes to…

NATIONAL FIRST RESPONDERS’ DAY salutes the people who head into the disaster, instead of away from it. Police, firefighters, EMTs and other emergency personnel deserve our gratitude and thanks for risking their lives to keep us out of harm’s way and to rescue us when that harm overtakes us. Thank you, from the bottoms of our hearts.

NATIONAL INTERNAL MEDICINE DAY thanks all of the doctors who assume the role of the Internal Medicine Physician. Their scope of care ranges from diagnosis to treatment to surgery and they sometimes go a step further by specializing. Thank you for your commitment and caring.
Our Furry Friends

NATIONAL PIT BULL AWARENESS DAY wants to dispel the stigma surrounding these loving, adorable dogs. It was man who turned some of these animals into beasts and man can fix it. These loyal canines are a great family dog and if they seem a little intense, it is only because they are happy to see you. The restrictions that some communities have regarding ownership of the pit bull are idiotic.
Education and Information

NATIONAL IMMIGRANTS’ DAY reminds us of what a melting pot our country truly is. Coming to this country was and is the dream of many and all races and peoples who have defined who we are. The Statue of Liberty held her arms open to many people and on this day, she was officially dedicated in 1886. I myself have a little Irish, English, Scottish, Welsh, Norwegian, German, Swedish and Cherokee blood running through my veins.

NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY asks the question – Do you know what to do with your expired or unused prescriptions? Just flushing them will get them gone, but it’s not too good for the sewer system and you can’t just throw them in the trash. Find out where your local drug drop-off point is. Ours is a couple of police stations in the area. During COVID we would walk into the station carrying our drugs and wearing masks – surreal.

1726 – Jonathan Swift publishes Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World – later called Gulliver’s Travels
1886 – The Statue of Liberty is officially dedicated – hence National Immigrants Day
1919 – Congress passes the Volstead Act which effectively prohibits the sale of high proof alcohol. President Woodrow Wilson had vetoed this earlier, but it passed through the senate and house anyway and started the era of prohibition
1962 – Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev agrees to President Kennedy’s demand to stop building missiles in Cuba and the world lets out a big sigh as the Cuban Missile Crisis comes to an end
1965 – The last piece of the St. Louis Gateway Arch fits into place perfectly, completing this 630 ft. tall monument to Westward Expansion. I have lived in its shadow all of my life and I still get a little awe-struck every time I see it.
