HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Family and Friends

APPLE GIFTING DAY has been around a long time. The tradition of giving apples or fruit on New Years goes back to the ancient Greek and Roman empires. Giving someone an apple on New Years means wishing them health all year long and they can be any variety including candied or caramel.
Education and Information

WORLD DAY OF PEACE brings us a message of how desperately we need peace. Since 1967, every New Years day, the Pope delivers his message of peace for the world. While you and I can’t stop wars from happening, we can do our part for our little corner of this wonderful world.
For Fun
The ROSE BOWL and TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE go hand in hand. The first flowery parade floated down Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena in 1890. There were about 2,000 people who came out to watch it and today 800,000 line the streets to see the floats and hear the bands. The Rose Bowl was actually started to help finance the parade and it’s inaugural game was in 1902 when Michigan beat Stanford 49-0 (Stanford quit in the 3rd quarter).

POLAR BEAR PLUNGE DAY invites us to jump feet first into the New Year with an icy dip. Many people take the plunge to raise money for charity, help boost their immune systems, reduce stress, or just to say they did it. I will watch them do it from the comfort of my temperature-controlled home.
Belly up to the Bar

NATIONAL BLOODY MARY DAY mixes vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne to bring you a drink that also goes by the names of Bucket of Blood and Red Snapper. Actually, there isn’t too much you can’t add to this drink, so make it how you like it and enjoy responsibly.

NATIONAL HANGOVER DAY tells us to drink water and rehydrate after a night of overindulgence. Taking some aspirin will help with the headache and eventually, over a period of time, you will feel better.
