Find your favorite service person and celebrate NATIONAL HUG A G.I. DAY.  I am sure these trained soldiers would very much appreciate a little love thrown their way, so march forth and get to huggin’.

Religious Holidays

The big hurrah before the Lentin season goes by many names – MARDI GRAS – FASNACHT – CARNIVAL – FAT TUESDAY – PACZKI DAY.  Lent is all about preparing oneself for Easter and for some that means denying themselves that which would distract them from that preparation.  Parades, feasts and indulgences are the order of the day.  We just had our big celebration in St. Louis over the weekend with over 7 million strings of beads being thrown during the parade.  Celebrate today to contemplate and abstain tomorrow.

Family and Friends

While we are in an appreciative mood, how about celebrating NATIONAL SON’S DAY.  I can’t tell you how proud I am of my Son who has such a big heart and works so hard.  Give your kiddo a nod today and let them know how much you love them.

Awareness Spotlight shines on…

NATIONAL SNACK DAY and GLOBAL OBESITY DAY just happen to fall on the same day, and I think that needs a second look.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with snacking and it is far from me to tell anyone how to eat.  All we have to do is look around to see the expanding waistlines (myself included) and realize that some action needs to be taken as obesity leads to serious health problems.  Enjoy your snacks but at the same time be aware of choices and consequences.  I wish I had earlier.

SPORTSMANSHIP DAY is all about the right attitude.  In the heat of  competition it is easy to lose your head when you are giving 100%, but dial  it back in and remember that respect for people is more important than winning and losing. I remember a softball matchup where Grandview University player Kaitlyn Moses hurt her ankle after hitting a grand slam and could not walk.  Even though it meant losing, members from the Southeastern University team carried her around the bases.

Education and Information

I am so thankful for the little red and blue squiggly lines that appear as I am typing these paragraphs.  Without the blue ones I would not be able to celebrate NATIONAL GRAMMAR DAY correctly.  When to use their, they’re or there is important to know, as is not skipping that comma or where to put it.  “They’re dinner” is a lot different than “their dinner”.

For Fun

When else would MARCHING MUSIC DAY fall but on March 4^th?  Drum Corp International founded this day in 2017 and it really gets us stirred up.  There is nothing quite like the sight and sound of a well-tuned, in-sync, marching band parading down the street or at a game. 

On Today’s Menu…

Our dessert of the day is a heavyweight champ.  NATIONAL POUND CAKE DAY is no light matter and deserves some serious attention when it comes to this delicious cake.  The original recipe called for a pound each of flour, butter, eggs, and sugar – each.  That’s a big cake and of course, where the name comes from.  Smaller proportions make for an ideal dessert that is just begging to top off a meal or make a sweet snack
